Mika was born in Te Wai Pounamu - the southern island of Aotearoa. A wee brown face in a sea of white folks, he was always special. He began singing as a small child. He began dancing in front of the TV, and at the age of 14 he began to perform. He went on to become National Disco King at 18 and was then part of the Maori pioneers of break-dance and won the Flash Dance Champs at 21. Ever hungry for a challenge he turned aerobics champ and finished 8th in the Tokyo World Competitions. After a period acting, singing and dancing in Te Ohu Whakaari, Maori Theatre in Education Company, Mika went solo, and he's never looked back. His larger than life persona has now become a Polynesian legend! Mika's full-on shows open with an explosion of cheek and charisma then drive right on with a level of intensity that can shock, shifting through a diversity of genre and moods. In Mika's hands this roller coaster ride becomes a seamless whole, for each show is a simple celebration of diversity. To see Mika live is a phenomenal experience. He is generous to a fault, and leaves us certain of our own unique individuality. Mika's music and writings have been released in NZ, and his face is often on TV and the pages of the glossy magazines. He somehow manages to be a favourite of both the Maori Queen and the nightclub scene! As well as commanding his nation's acclaim he has played the festivals of Australia and USA. In the UK he has played the Edinburgh Festival in four consecutive seasons, entertained at the Royal Albert Hall and for Prince Charles at the Palace of Holyrood House.
